I tested the module I received. With 7.4 volts input, the secondary would jump an air gap of 4cm maximum. At 4.3cm gap, the module would internally spark. The DC output measured about 36KV when discharging at a 4cm gap. The module seems to be fairly robust with nice long leads.

It starts working with about 5V input, and works fine up to 12V. Don't use it with full power (voltage) in long periods, as the generator gets hot after some time. It generates sparks up to 5 cm - that is quite high voltage, but of course not 500kV (which should make sparks at least 50 cm). Around 50-60kV is a more real estimate. It seems that it also have an internal spark gap, as when the distance between the wires (40kV DC cables in fact) is to high (5-6 cm), you can hear sparks from inside the generator. So is it a breakdown or is it a spark gap? I think it's a spark gap, as I did this several times without notice any degrade in the spark lenght or function. So 5 cm is about what you can expect from this unit. However, it measures about 800 ohms between the output cables. So this is not DC, but short pulses of AC from the secondary of a transformer. I believe it is a "Tesla"-construction. First DC-input is converted to high voltage (500-1500V or whatever), and charging a capacitor. Then this high voltage charge is discharged through the primary of the second transformer (the Tesla coil). As at result, the secondary is generating insane high voltages in short pulses. At 12V input the repetition rate is several Hz at 5 cm sparks. It will not kill you, but it will without doubt give you an unplesant shock. Value for the money! With an x-ray tube, it will probably be able to produce x-rays too.

Vandaag kon ik mijn nieuwe hoogspanningsgenerator in gebruik nemen . De oude in mijn luchtreiniger was fel aan het nalaten , vandaar deze aankoop . Sneller geleverd dan verwacht super Bang-good.com !

Received in good order , even though bag was ripped open in two different places ! ... Tested with 9volts and it jumped a 3/4" air gap. 12v will probably do better. I am happy with this purchase.

Paragonandolo a quello da 50 KV mi aspettavo una scintilla più potente. La frequenza di ripetizione della scintilla è piuttosto bassa ma è normale che aumentando la tensione diminuisca la corrente e quindi la potenza della scarica
