Looped back with a FT232 (also from bg, also probably not genuine) at a variety of baud rates up to 3000000 and they works reliably. The PL2303 chips on mine have no markings on the package, so they are almost certainly not genuine, but they work great with my Linux hosts with the driver in the mainline kernel - Prolific's drivers on other platforms may or may not have issues with them. At $1/ea they're exactly what I was expecting.
